Chautauqua House

History

Chautauqua House is named after an educational institution located in the western part of New York State between Buffalo and Erie, PA. William Rainey Harper taught at this institution for years sharing Chautauqua’s commitment to democratizing higher education in America. He brought that same commitment to the University of Chicago when he assumed leadership as its first president.

Culture

Our interest in cooking, Chicago restaurants and delicious study breaks is steadfast. Students compete to see who can create the most delicious and original study break food, vying for a prize decided by their peers at the end of each quarter. Past successes have included 5 kinds of homemade sorbet and a huge pot of chicken fried rice.
