Graham House

History

Graham House, located on the 3rd & 4th floors of Max Palevsky Central, was created on January 3, 2002. While Graham House has now come to represent unity within the housing system, and strength in IM sports, its first moments can be summed up in the word "new." It was so new, in fact, that for nearly a year it was simply called "New House." All traces of that temporary title having vanished, Graham House residents are now proud to bear the name of Katherine Graham, a University of Chicago alumna who later became the editor of the Washington Post at the time of the Watergate scandal.

Culture

In Graham House's first full year, 2002-2003, early Grahamites waged and won many battles against other houses in IM sports. Our football, volleyball, softball, soccer, and innertube waterpolo teams admitted no competition and are now feared worldwide. Last year's residents set new records for house spirit and unity and we like to think that we have created the best community on campus. We organize fun games of kickball and football in the snow whenever the weather permits, and we pride ourselves in defying the saying that the University of Chicago is "where fun comes to die."
