HistoryKenwood House is named for the Chicago neighborhood just north of Hyde Park in which a significant number of Chicago philanthropists and University founders and trustees lived early in the University’s history. These major leaders of the young University included Harold Swift, Julius Rosenwald, and Martin Ryerson. CultureKenwood House is a warm, social and encouraging House in the southwest corner of South Campus West where everyone is welcome. Residents support one another, attending each other's plays, sports games and improv performances. Every week brings three, count 'em, three study breaks, including the RA study break in the House Lounge (waffles are a favorite) and Monday study breaks in the RH apartment, where anything animated rules and coffee is always available. Kenwood residents are known for group all-nighters ("You'll never be awake alone." Alejandra M.), marathon movie nights, Speed Scrabble games, and boisterous " if not victorious " IM broomball games. |
