HistoryOriginally built as a church retirement home, Maclean House was acquired and renovated by the university in 1991. It is named after famous University of Chicago professor Norman Maclean, author of A River Runs Through It. Maclean houses a total of 98 students and consists almost exclusive of singles. On average 50% of the residents are first years, 35% second years, 10% third years, and 5% fourth years. A five minute walk north of Ratner Athletic Center in a quiet residential section of Hyde Park. CultureAs would be expected of a dorm of singles Maclean has an eclectic mix of students. Despite such a diverse mix, Maclean still maintains a strong sense of house unity. Tired of studying? You will never be at a loss to find amusement at Maclean.
