HistorySalisbury House, named after Rollin D. Salisbury who along with T.C. Chamberlin wrote the most influential textbook in geology of the first half of the 20th century. CultureSalisbury houses 38 happy students, making it the second-smallest House in the University House System. It is comprised of four floors: two co-ed, two single-sex, all composed of single rooms except four two-room adjoined doubles. Don't assume that the ratio of singles and smaller population makes for a quiet, lifeless House, though. Due to both size and set-up, Sarumites, as they are called (in the tradition of the residents of Salisbury, Great Britain), tend to be a closely-knit and variably social bunch. The House Lounge, complete with TV, video games and movie-viewing equipment, is central to the House social life. It's also not uncommon to see four or five people all sitting in one room doing homework together, or a large group walking across the courtyard to eat dinner at the house table. It doesn't take much encouragement to get the group to bond, but activities like IM sports, cultural outings to the city, weekly house meetings and study breaks, and RH-hosted dinners are a welcome addition and a good excuse to hang out with great friends. |
