HistoryPaul Shorey, former professor of Greek at the University of Chicago, was born August 3, 1857 in Davenport, Iowa. His family moved to Chicago in 1865; his father, Daniel Lewis Shorey, established a successful law practice and was named an alderman. In 1874 he entered Harvard (his father's alma mater) and graduated in 1878 with highest honors in classics, history, and philosophy. CultureShorey House is located on the 9th and 10th floors of Pierce Tower. Our close-knit House community enjoys an extraordinary devotion to Midnight Soccer and an intense love of cardboard box mazes. First-years undertake the annual painting of the bizarre and idolistic statue located in our lounge. Shorey maintains a plethora of associate members who stay connected with the House (once a Shoreyite, always a Shoreyite). We enjoy yearly House trips to Greektown, Chinatown, and we always look forward to a Brazilian BBQ feast at the end of the quarter. We also meet weekly for amazing study breaks, which include pizza bagels, cakes, cookies and brownies. |
