HistoryTalbot House is named after Marion Talbot, who was born before the Civil War and for more than 30 years headed the Department of Household Administration and served as Dean of Women at the U of C. Talbot championed the education of women and challenged the university to stick to its early commitment to equal opportunities for women. Talbot is the middle house of Broadview Hall, on South High Park Boulevard, close to Lake Michigan and the Museum of Science and Industry. CultureMost people in Talbot House live in singles, but that doesn't mean they don't like each other. Almost any time of the day.or night.you.ll find them gathered in the lounge watching The Simpsons or a movie, testing their luck at poker, indulging in one of Talbot.s frequent study breaks, even doing homework. In sum, Talbot offers a pleasing mix of solitude and society. It.s also ideally located. An express bus nearby whisks residents into the city on house trips to exotic restaurants, the Chicago auto show, baseball games, the opera, and more. Talbot students also go east to jog, bike or have cookouts by the lake just a few blocks away. The more adventuresome go farther afield, to the Indiana Dunes for a spring camping trip. |
