HistoryVincent House is named after George E. Vincent, a former Dean at the University and head of the division of natural sciences until he retired in 1930. Vincent House is one of seven houses at Burton-Judson Court. Located in the west part of the courtyard, Vincent faces the courtyard to the south and the midway to the north. The house consists of five floors each housing between 5 and 10 students. The first floor is designated male-only, the second floor is designated female only and the other three floors are coed. CultureThough Vincent is the only House in the system made up entirely of singles, this does not detract from our unique social life in any way. Vincentians, as we call ourselves, are an interesting bunch, and House culture reflects this. Whether it be the fascinating dialect of English residents are known to speak (we enjoy making up new words), or House elections complete with hilarious campaign ads, Vincent is nothing short of an awesome place to live. Within the House lounge you’ll find a variety of activities taking place, from video games and movies on our miraculous television, to plain old hanging out. You can always find somebody to talk with, but getting away to study is as simple as closing your door. Vincentians enjoy spending extended amounts of time at the House Table discussing just about anything that crosses our minds. All enjoy study breaks prepared with master precision by either the Resident Heads or the more culinary gifted of residents. House trips provide a venue to get to know the city better, and House events, such as our annual service auction, provide good times for all. The House enthusiastically participates in a variety of inter-House events such as the Burton Judson Olympics, and B-J Iron Chef. To put it simply, Vincent provides the perfect housing experience. To be a Vincentian is to be a privileged University of Chicago student. |
