HistoryWoodward House is a relatively new community, established in the Max Palevsky Central building. It was named after Frederick Campbell Woodward (1874-1954) who was Professor of Law from 1916 to 1926 , then Vice-President of the University from 1926 to 1936 and an acting President of the University from 1928 to 1929. When Woodward-the-building still existed on the site of the new business school, Woodward-the-house was called Harper House. When the community moved to Max Palevsky, it was renamed Woodward House in honor of the old residence hall building. CultureWoodward is a fairly dynamic house, and a little over 2/3 of the residents are first-years. Woodwardians are a diverse bunch, with a broad range of personalities and intellectual interests. The majority of the students are very involved in house life, participating in many house activities. It's never hard to round up a group for dinner in Chinatown or for an impromptu game of Ultimate Frisbee on the quads. Accordingly, the house motto is: "We show up." |
