Philippe Guyot-Sionnest and Caryl Gout
Resident Masters — Renee Granville-Grossman Residential Commons West
Philippe and Caryl joined the Granville-Grossman West community in the fall quarter of 2014. Philippe studied Engineering at Ecole Polytechnique and Physics at Universitè Paris-Sud before receiving his PhD in Physics from UC Berkeley. Currently he is a professor of Chemistry and Physics at the University of Chicago. Caryl has an undergraduate degree in Journalism from Rhodes University in South Africa and is now a small business owner in downtown Chicago.
Knowing the many transitions that young people experience during their years in college, Guyot-Sionnest said he hopes his family is a reassuring presence for the students. Originally from France and South Africa, respectively, Guyot-Sionnest and Gout bring a wealth of international experiences and interests to South Campus. They hope to bring in faculty speakers from a variety of disciplines, as well as organize trips with students to the many music and cultural events in Chicago.
Guyot-Sionnest and Gout enjoy playing games with their friends and family, including their three children, Marcel, 22, Stephanie, 21, and Fabrice, 16. They welcome any players who can hold their own in Boggle, Scrabble and Pictionary, to name a few of their favorites.
