Residence Halls
Voice Services
Each residence hall room comes equipped with a single-line telephone, which allows on-campus, local, domestic long-distance, and incoming calls at no charge. Other free features include call waiting, abbreviated dialing, three-way calling, and redial. (Voicemail is available for a fee.) In all residence halls, except for South Campus Residence Hall, students are welcome to bring their own telephones, answering machines, or other devices to connect to their lines. In South Campus, students are provided with voice-over-IP phones, or phones that use data instead of analog connections. Answering machines will not work with these phones.
International long-distance calls require an authorization code (AuthCode) or a calling card. NSIT has contracted with long distance carriers that provide the most cost-effective service to the University as a whole. However, students living in dormitories can reach their preferred long distance carrier by following the instructions on the back of the preferred carrier's calling card. Students with AuthCodes will receive monthly itemized statements from the Office of the Bursar.
For more details on voice services, see the CONNECT General Information page.
Data Services
In addition to phone service, each residence hall room has at least one active Ethernet data connection. Using Windows or Macintosh computers or UNIX-based systems, students can have access to a wealth of University information and services. Students are advised to acquire the NSIT Connectivity Package for personal computers used on campus. Please see the Residential Computing pages or phone NSIT's technical support at 834-TECH (834-8324) for more information.
For assistance with data services or conencting to the Internet from your room, contact your hall's Residential Computing Assistant.
