Residence Hall Closure Updates

Dear Students, Parents, and Families,

During this time of change, I wanted to provide you with as much information as possible about residence hall closure and future operations.

Residence Hall Closures

Housing & Residence Life (HRL) will cease normal operations effective at 5 p.m. on Sunday, March 22.  Students will need to fully vacate their rooms, including those students currently housed in Vue53, by this date.  For students who have been approved for Spring Break Housing, move out needs to be completed by 12 p.m. on Sunday, March 29.

We recognize that the limited advance notice of our closure may mean that students and their families need extended access.  Accordingly, our residence halls will be accessible for parents and students to complete their moves until 12 p.m. on Sunday, March 29.  HRL is providing a limited number of boxes and tape for students to pick up at the residence hall desks.  Storage within our residence halls will be open extended hours beginning this week until March 22, or until we reach capacity, and we will have trash receptacles onsite beginning Friday, March 13, for disposal of unwanted items.

Remaining On Campus

HRL recognizes that for some students it is not possible to travel home due to coronavirus-related travel restrictions.  For students in this situation, Housing & Residence Life will offer housing and dining for the spring quarter.  To inform HRL of this need, students must complete the Spring Quarter Exception Housing application located in their myHousing portal: no later than 12 p.m. on Wednesday, March 18.

Students who have extenuating circumstances and wish to be permitted to remain on campus during spring quarter must also complete the Spring Quarter Exception Housing application.  These applications will be reviewed and granted on a case-by-case basis.  To apply, please complete the Spring Quarter Exception Housing application located in the myHousing portal: no later than 12 p.m. on Wednesday, March 18 .

Storage and Shipping

If you have already departed from campus for the quarter, you are not eligible for on-campus storage.  HRL will make arrangements for you to return to campus and retrieve your items during the spring quarter or, alternatively, we can have your belongings packed and shipped to you and bill your bursar’s account.  Please contact if this situation applies to you.

Additional Information

For additional information, please see the FAQs on the HRL website for answers to anticipated questions.

This is an unprecedented course of action for HRL and the University and we know with change can come uncertainty.  We appreciate your patience as we navigate through early closure, and will continue to provide updates as they become available.

Spring Closure 2020 FAQs

When do I need to be checked out of my on-campus housing?

Normal HRL operations will cease on Sunday, March 22.  HRL is advising all students to vacate and remove all of their belongings by 5pm on this date.

What if I can’t vacate completely by 5pm, Sunday, March 22?

HRL recognizes that this move out date may not be feasible for everyone.  Students who need a move out extension (not a housing extension) should contact the Assistant Director of Residence Life who oversees their community.
